1-Wire to Qwiic Bridge - DS28E17

The 1-Wire to Qwiic Bridge lets you communicate via I2C over very long distances — up to approximately 100 metres depending on the application. It works by packetising I2C data as 1-Wire packets, sending them over the 1-Wire bus to the DS28E17 bridge chip, which translates them back to I2C for any connected slave device. Communication is bidirectional.

Multiple bridges can be daisy-chained for multi-node networks, with footprints for both RJ45 and RJ11 connectors provided for convenient wiring. Each DS28E17 has a unique 64-bit ROM address, allowing I2C devices with limited addressing to be attached to separate bridges and addressed individually — no multiplexer needed.

Key Features

  • Bridge Chip – DS28E17 (1-Wire IN / I2C OUT)
  • Communication Range – Up to ~100 m over 1-Wire bus
  • Unique Addressing – 64-bit ROM registration number per bridge
  • Connectors – Qwiic (I2C side), footprints for RJ45 and RJ11 (1-Wire side)
  • Daisy-chainable – Multiple bridges on one 1-Wire bus
  • Qwiic Compatible – Solderless connection to Qwiic-enabled boards and sensors

Ideal For

  • Long-distance I2C communication (sensor networks, building automation)
  • Multi-node I2C networks without address conflicts
  • Extending Qwiic sensor reach beyond typical I2C cable lengths

Package Contents

  • 1× 1-Wire to Qwiic Bridge (DS28E17)
Note: This is a SparkX experimental product. SparkX products are rapidly produced to bring you cutting-edge technology as it becomes available. These products are tested but come with no guarantees. The DS28E17 is a 1-Wire IN / I2C OUT device — the master must be connected to the 1-Wire bus side.
