Adafruit GPS logger shield kit [v1.1]

The Adafruit GPS Logger Shield Kit adds GPS location tracking and SD card data logging to your Arduino. Build the kit, plug in a compatible GPS module, and start logging precise location, date, time, and analog sensor data in CSV format to a FAT16-formatted SD card.

The shield is designed specifically for use with the EM-406a GPS module, with the surface-mount GPS connector pre-soldered. It is also compatible with Tyco A1035D, EB-85A, and Lassen IQ modules. Run the included Arduino example sketches to parse NMEA sentences or log GPS data alongside sensor readings.

Key Features

  • GPS Data Parsing – Read and parse NMEA sentences from compatible GPS modules
  • SD Card Data Logging – Log location, date, time, and analog sensor data in CSV format to FAT16 SD cards
  • Pre-Soldered GPS Connector – Surface-mount connector ready for EM-406a and compatible modules
  • Arduino Shield Form Factor – Plugs directly onto Arduino Uno and compatible boards
  • Example Sketches Included – Get started quickly with GPS parsing and logging examples

Ideal For

  • GPS tracking and location logging projects
  • Environmental data collection with geo-tagging
  • Vehicle or asset tracking systems
  • Learning GPS and data logging with Arduino
Important: GPS module, Arduino, and SD memory card are not included and must be purchased separately.
Note: The GPS library requires approximately 12 KB of Flash and over 512 bytes of RAM. Examples work on ATmega168-based Arduinos, but an ATmega328-based board (such as the Arduino Uno) is recommended for more complex projects. Battery life is approximately 3 hours with a 9V battery or up to 12 hours with a USB battery pack.
