Adafruit MCP9601 (MCP96L01) I2C Thermocouple Amplifier
The Adafruit MCP9601 (MCP96L01) I2C Thermocouple Amplifier handles all the analogue complexity of thermocouple measurement over a simple I2C interface. Connect your thermocouple, wire up I2C (or use the solderless STEMMA QT connector), and read accurate temperature data from K, J, T, N, S, E, B, and R type thermocouples.
The MCP96L01 chip includes built-in cold-junction compensation, configurable over/under temperature alerts, and reports both the thermocouple (hot) and ambient chip (cold) temperatures. The breakout board features a 3.3V regulator and level shifting, so it works seamlessly with both 3.3V and 5V logic.
Key Features
- 8 Thermocouple Types Supported – K, J, T, N, S, E, B, and R type
- ADC Resolution – ±0.0625°C measurement resolution
- Thermocouple Accuracy – ±2.0°C typical / ±4.0°C maximum (MCP96L01 chip accuracy, not including thermocouple tolerance)
- I2C Interface – Simple digital output with no analogue calibration required
- STEMMA QT / Qwiic Ports – Solderless I2C connection, no soldering needed
- Cold-Junction Compensation – Built-in reference for accurate readings
- Configurable Alerts – Set over/under temperature thresholds
- 3.3V and 5V Compatible – On-board regulator and level shifting
