Adafruit Proto Shield for Arduino Kit [v.5]

The Adafruit Proto Shield for Arduino (v.5) is a prototyping shield with a 0.1" grid, power rails, indicator LEDs, and room for DIP and SOIC ICs. It works with the Arduino UNO, NG, Diecimila, and Duemilanove, and is compatible with mini breadboards for additional prototyping space.

Key Features

  • 0.1" × 0.1" Prototyping Grid – Large pads for easy soldering
  • Power Rails – Down the middle and sides for convenient power distribution
  • DIP IC Footprint – Accommodates DIP ICs up to 20 pins
  • SOIC Breakout Area – Surface-mount area for up to 14-pin SOIC parts
  • ICSP Header – For uploading via an AVR programmer
  • Reset Button + Extra Button – General-use tactile button alongside the reset
  • 2 LEDs with Resistors – Red and green 3 mm LEDs for status indicators
  • 2× 0.1 µF Capacitors – For power supply stability
  • All Pins Brought Out – Including 3V and Reset header pins
  • Breadboard Compatible – Fits tiny breadboards or standard breadboards with rails removed

Compatibility

  • Arduino UNO, NG, Diecimila, Duemilanove
  • Arduino Leonardo (partial — IOREF/SDA/SCL pins not broken out; use D2/D3 for I2C)

Also Consider

Ideal For

  • Custom circuit prototyping on top of Arduino
  • Permanent project builds in shield form factor
  • Adding DIP or SOIC ICs to Arduino projects
  • Learning to solder with a beginner-friendly kit

Package Contents

  • 1× Proto Shield v.5 PCB
  • 1× Set of headers
  • 2× 3 mm LEDs (red and green) with resistors
  • 2× 0.1 µF capacitors
  • 1× Reset button
