Adafruit Ultimate GPS Logger Shield - Includes GPS Module

The Adafruit Ultimate GPS Logger Shield combines the popular Ultimate GPS module with a MicroSD card slot, giving your Arduino a complete GPS datalogging solution. Built around the MTK3339 chipset, it tracks up to 22 satellites on 66 channels with -165 dBm sensitivity and delivers up to 10 position updates per second.

Log GPS data directly to a removable MicroSD card, or use the built-in FLASH datalogging for autonomous recording. The shield includes a prototyping area for adding your own sensors and LEDs, plus an RTC battery for accurate timekeeping even when powered off.

Key Features

  • 66-Channel GPS Receiver – Tracks up to 22 satellites with -165 dBm sensitivity and 10 Hz updates
  • MicroSD Card Slot – Log GPS data to a removable MicroSD card
  • Built-in FLASH Datalogging – Autonomous internal logging via LOCUS
  • Low Power – Only 20 mA current draw, half of most GPS modules
  • Dual Antenna Support – Internal patch antenna plus u.FL connector for external active antenna (auto-switching)
  • RTC with Battery Backup – CR1220 coin cell included for up to 7 years of timekeeping
  • PPS Output – Pulse-Per-Second signal on GPS fix
  • Status LEDs – Power, Pin #13, and Fix status indicators
  • Prototyping Area – Large area for adding custom components

Ideal For

  • GPS datalogging and field recording projects
  • Geocaching and location-triggered applications
  • Vehicle and asset tracking
  • Location-aware Arduino projects

Compatibility

  • Arduino Uno, Duemilanove, Diecimila, and Leonardo
  • Not compatible with Arduino Mega, ADK, or Due

Package Contents

  • 1× Adafruit Ultimate GPS Logger Shield (fully assembled and tested with GPS module)
  • 1× 0.1" male header strip (requires soldering)
  • 1× CR1220 coin cell battery
Note: MicroSD card not included. If you need to stack shields, use stacking headers instead of the included male headers.
Tip: For indoor or enclosed use, connect an external active GPS antenna via a uFL-to-SMA adapter cable — the module will automatically switch over.
