Circuit Playground 200x200 Tri-Color E-Ink Gizmo - E-Ink Display + Audio Amplifier

The Circuit Playground E-Ink Gizmo is a bolt-on expansion that adds a 1.54" tri-colour e-ink display, two STEMMA connectors, and a Class D audio amplifier to your Circuit Playground board. It attaches mechanically and electrically via pre-soldered M3 standoffs — no soldering or wiring required.

The 200×200 pixel e-ink display renders black and red ink on a white background, offering high contrast and excellent daylight readability. Like all e-ink panels, the image persists even when power is disconnected, making it ideal for status displays, badges, and signage.

Key Features

  • 1.54" Tri-Colour E-Ink Display – 200×200 pixels, black/red/white, SSD1681 chipset
  • Class D Audio Amplifier – Molex PicoBlade connector for attaching a small speaker
  • 2× 3-Pin STEMMA Connectors – For NeoPixel strips or servos
  • Bolt-On Design – Pre-soldered M3 standoffs for secure, solder-free attachment
  • Arduino & CircuitPython Support – Adafruit GFX-compatible library included

Specifications

  • Display – 1.54" e-ink, 200×200 px, tri-colour (black, red, white)
  • Driver Chip – SSD1681
  • Interface – SPI (no onboard SRAM — requires ~7 KB of MCU RAM for the frame buffer)
  • Audio Output – Class D amplifier with Molex PicoBlade connector

Compatibility

  • Circuit Playground Bluefruit – Recommended; 256 KB RAM, full CircuitPython and Arduino support
  • Circuit Playground Express – Supported; 32 KB RAM, works well in Arduino; limited CircuitPython use due to memory constraints
  • Circuit Playground Classic – Not compatible (insufficient RAM)

Package Contents

  • 1× E-Ink Gizmo PCB with pre-soldered standoffs
  • 12× M3 screws
Tip: For the best CircuitPython experience, pair this Gizmo with the Circuit Playground Bluefruit. The Express board has limited memory for CircuitPython and is best suited for image slideshows or REPL display.
