Electric Imp
The Electric Imp is a WiFi-enabled development platform in an SD card form factor, powered by a Cortex-M3 processor core. It provides an integrated way to connect hardware devices to other devices and internet services over 802.11b/g/n WiFi, with cloud-based development and over-the-air programming.
Simply configure WiFi credentials optically using an iOS or Android smartphone — no special hardware required — then develop code in a browser-based IDE using Squirrel, a C-like scripting language. Cloud connectivity provides buffered I/O, crash recovery, and the ability to push updates to devices in the field.
Key Features
- 802.11b/g/n WiFi – Built-in transceiver with integrated antenna and WEP/WPA/WPA2 encryption
- Cortex-M3 Processor – High performance with low power consumption
- 6 Flexible I/O Pins – Software-selectable UART, I²C, SPI, analog in/out, PWM, and GPIO
- Cloud-Based IDE – No SDK to install, no JTAG pods — develop directly in your browser
- Over-the-Air Programming – Push code updates to deployed devices with a few clicks
- TLS Encrypted – Secure data transfer between device and cloud service
- Optical WiFi Setup – Configure network credentials using your smartphone screen
