The RPLIDAR A2M8 is a 360° 2D LIDAR scanner capable of taking up to 8,000 laser range samples per second. Using laser triangulation measurement developed by SLAMTEC, it performs full 360° scans within a 12 m range (extendable to 18 m with firmware adjustment), generating 2D point cloud data suitable for mapping, localisation, and environment modelling.

The scanner consists of a range sensor core and a motorised rotation assembly. The scanning frequency is adjustable between 5–15 Hz (default 10 Hz / 600 rpm) via PWM motor control. Each unit is tested to meet FDA Class I laser safety standards before shipping.
