This is a ball tilt switch. When the switch is vertical the switch is ON. When put horizontal the switch is OFF.

What is a Tilt Switch? 

A Tilt Switch is a very simple sensor that uses two conductive steel balls to complete a circuit. 



When the sensor is tilted, the balls no longer complete and close the circuit.
