SparkFun GPS Logger Shield

Turn your Arduino into a GPS data logger with the SparkFun GPS Logger Shield. Built around the GP3906-TLP GPS module (MediaTek MT3339, 66-channel receiver), this shield streams position updates at up to 10Hz over a serial connection, which you can log to the onboard microSD card socket.

The shield is highly configurable — a switch selects between hardware and software serial for the GPS UART, the microSD card runs on hardware SPI, and a prototyping area lets you add extra components. Power is taken from the Arduino 5V rail and regulated to 3.3V for the GPS and microSD, drawing around 30mA average with occasional spikes to 100mA.

Key Features

  • GP3906-TLP GPS Module – 66-channel receiver with up to 10Hz update rate
  • MicroSD Card Socket – Log GPS data directly to removable storage
  • UART Switch – Select hardware or software serial for GPS communication
  • 12mm Coin Cell Holder – For GPS backup battery (CR1225 recommended)
  • Prototyping Area – Extra space for additional components
  • GPS Pins Broken Out – Access all GPS module pins
  • Arduino Reset Button – Convenient onboard reset
Note: Headers are not included. We recommend the Arduino Stackable Header Kit - R3. A 12mm coin cell battery (CR1225) for GPS backup is also recommended.

Ideal For

  • Position tracking and route logging
  • Speed and altitude monitoring
  • Geocaching and outdoor projects
  • Vehicle and asset tracking

Package Contents

  • 1× SparkFun GPS Logger Shield (headers not included)
