SparkFun Lumenati 3x3
The SparkFun Lumenati 3×3 is a compact LED board featuring nine APA102C addressable RGB LEDs arranged in a 3×3 array. It can be daisy-chained with other Lumenati boards to create larger custom LED formations, and the 0.1" (2.54 mm) pin spacing allows direct installation into a breadboard for prototyping.
The APA102C LEDs use a 2-wire SPI-like protocol (clock + data) rather than the single-wire timing-critical protocol used by WS2812B LEDs. This makes them compatible with single-board computers like the Raspberry Pi that don't natively support precisely timed data streams. Each LED on the board is numbered to indicate its position in the chain, simplifying code development.
Key Features
- 9× APA102C LEDs – Addressable RGB LEDs in a 3×3 grid
- Daisy-Chainable – Connect multiple Lumenati boards for larger displays
- 2-Wire Protocol – Clock + data lines; timing-independent, works with Raspberry Pi
- Breadboard-Friendly – 0.1" (2.54 mm) pin spacing
- Numbered LEDs – Position labels for easier programming
Specifications
- LED Type – APA102C (addressable RGB)
- LED Count – 9 (3×3 array)
- Power Input – 5 V
- Logic Levels – 0–5 V (clock and data)
- Interface – 2-wire SPI-like (clock + data)
Ideal For
- Custom LED lighting on drones, robots, and wearables
- Status indicators and decorative lighting
- Prototyping addressable LED projects on a breadboard
