The SparkFun ProtoShield Kit is a prototyping shield that plugs directly into an Arduino Uno, giving you a dedicated soldering area to build custom circuits on top of your Arduino. It includes two general-purpose LEDs, a push button, a BlueSMiRF socket for Bluetooth connectivity, and brings the Arduino reset switch to the top level for easy access.

This kit comes unassembled and requires through-hole soldering — a good introductory project for those learning to solder. All components are through-hole for ease of assembly. A mini breadboard can be added on top (sold separately) for additional prototyping flexibility.
