SparkFun Qwiic PIR Starter Kit (1µA)
The SparkFun Qwiic PIR Starter Kit provides everything you need to get started with passive infrared motion detection using the Qwiic ecosystem. The kit pairs a SparkFun RedBoard Qwiic (Arduino-compatible) with the ultra-low-power EKMB1107112 Qwiic PIR sensor from Panasonic, which draws just 1 µA in standby — ideal for battery-powered applications.
The PIR sensor detects motion across 32 zones at up to 5 m distance with a 90° × 90° detection area. It connects to the RedBoard via a single Qwiic cable (included) with no soldering required. Program the RedBoard over USB using the Arduino IDE, and use the provided Arduino or Python libraries to read motion events over I2C.
Key Features
- 1 µA Standby Current – Panasonic EKM-series PIR optimised for battery-powered use
- 32-Zone Detection – Digital output with 5 m range and 90° × 90° field of view
- Low-Profile Sensor – 10.9 mm height (vs standard 14.4 mm) for space-constrained designs
- Qwiic I2C Connection – Plug-and-play via polarised JST connector, no soldering needed
- RedBoard Qwiic Included – Arduino UNO-compatible board with built-in Qwiic connector
- Arduino & Python Libraries – Ready-to-use code for rapid prototyping
Ideal For
- Motion-activated lighting and appliance control
- Home and building automation
- Security and occupancy detection
- Battery-powered IoT sensor nodes
Package Contents
- 1× SparkFun Qwiic PIR – 1 µA (EKMB1107112)
