SparkFun Triple Axis Accelerometer and Gyro Breakout - MPU-6050
The SparkFun MPU-6050 Breakout combines a MEMS 3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer on a single silicon die, along with an onboard Digital Motion Processor (DMP) capable of running 9-axis MotionFusion algorithms. By integrating both sensors on one chip, it eliminates the cross-axis alignment problems common with discrete sensor arrangements.
The breakout board brings all essential pins out to standard 0.1″ headers for easy prototyping, including the auxiliary master I2C bus that allows the MPU-6050 to interface with external magnetometers and other sensors for full 9-axis fusion.
Key Features
- 6-Axis IMU – 3-axis gyroscope + 3-axis accelerometer on a single die
- Digital Motion Processor (DMP) – Offloads MotionFusion, sensor timing synchronisation, and gesture detection from the host MCU
- Flexible Output Formats – Rotation matrix, quaternion, Euler angle, or raw data via I2C
- Built-In Calibration – Run-time bias and compass calibration with no user intervention required
- On-Chip Temperature Sensor – Digital-output temperature reading
- Configurable Solder Jumpers – Selectable CLK, FSYNC, and AD0 settings
Specifications
- Input Voltage – 2.3–3.4 V
- Gyroscope Range – ±250, ±500, ±1000, ±2000 °/s (up to 131 LSBs/°/s sensitivity)
- Accelerometer Range – ±2 g, ±4 g, ±8 g, ±16 g (programmable)
- Interface – I2C
- Dimensions – 25.5 × 15.2 × 2.48 mm (1.0 × 0.6 × 0.09″)
Ideal For
- Robot balancing and orientation sensing
- Drone and UAV stabilisation
- Motion tracking and gesture detection
- Wearable and handheld device projects
