SparkFun WiFi IR Blaster (ESP8266)

The SparkFun WiFi IR Blaster combines an ESP8266 WiFi/microcontroller SoC with IR emitter and receiver components, enabling control of legacy infrared devices over a WiFi network. Use it to trigger IR-controlled TVs, stereos, LED strips, and other devices via HTTP, MQTT, or TCP — bringing old hardware into the Internet of Things.

The board includes a crystal, 4 MB flash, and PCB antenna. The IR emitter and detector are packaged with the board but not pre-soldered, allowing flexible positioning at any angle your project requires. Some soldering is required for assembly.

Key Features

  • ESP8266 WiFi SoC – Built-in WiFi with 4 MB flash and PCB antenna
  • IR Emitter & Receiver – Included but unsoldered for flexible mounting angles
  • Protocol Support – Interface between HTTP, MQTT, TCP, and infrared devices
  • Customisable – Swap in your own IR emitter or receiver components if needed
  • Compact Design – PCB antenna under the SparkFun logo area

Specifications

  • Microcontroller – ESP8266
  • Flash – 4 MB
  • Antenna – Onboard PCB antenna
  • IR Components – Emitter and detector (included, unsoldered)
  • Protocols – HTTP, MQTT, TCP, IR
Tip: The PCB antenna sits beneath the SparkFun logo on the board. Avoid placing components or obstructions near that area to ensure reliable WiFi performance.

Ideal For

  • WiFi control of IR-controlled TVs, stereos, and appliances
  • Home automation and IoT integration
  • Voice assistant (Alexa, Google Home) IR bridge projects
  • Scheduled IR triggers and remote automation

Package Contents

  • 1× SparkFun WiFi IR Blaster PCB
  • 1× IR Emitter (unsoldered)
  • 1× IR Receiver (unsoldered)
Note: Soldering is required to attach the IR emitter and receiver to the board.
